  What is genre fiction?
Stories that have a distinctive form, style, or content are referred to as genre fiction (not to be confused with innocuous "generic" fiction). Plot is the driving force in most genre fiction, which causes critics to decry it as "formulaic." Readers, however, take a different view—genre fiction is the most widely published and read fiction in the world.
